Lavender, The Master Healer

The ancient Greeks and Romans were onto something when they were adding lavender essences to their baths. This plant is all levels and ways of awesome, being the remedy for a ton of ailments from insomnia to bruises. Think about it. If lavender protected people from the plague during the Middle Ages, it is worth a double-take when walking past the essential oil shelf in your local store.

Oh, lavender! Oh, lavender!
How can you help me? Let me count the ways…
  1. Minor burns, cuts, and bruises – Lavender is a natural painkiller, reduces swelling, and prevents infections. Mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil with 2 teaspoons of aloe vera and 1 teaspoon of grapeseed oil, and you’ve got yourself an awesome salve for sunburns and scrapes.
  2. Headaches & migraines – Not only is it a natural pain killer, lavender also relieves muscle cramps and spasms. So, the next time you get a headache, try mixing a teaspoon of lavender oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil and rub the mixture on your forehead, temples, back of the neck, and shoulder muscles.
  3. Insomnia, stress, and anxiety – In addition to its soothing herbal-floral scent, lavender is a natural sedative and antidepressant. Cap off your evening with a hot bath made using ½ cup Epsom salts, ½ cup Dead Sea salts, and 15 drops of lavender essential oil. You can also throw dried lavender leaves/flowers/stems in the fireplace/fire pit to take advantage of the pleasant aroma on a winter’s night.
  4. High blood pressure – Lavender triggers the blood vessels to relax, thus reducing your blood pressure. At the end of a stressful day, consider a cup of lavender tea sweetened with honey.
  5. Insect repellent – the sweet, herbal-floral scent of lavender is a strong deterrent for fleas, moths, flies, and mosquitoes. Consider having outdoor potted lavender plants near the front door, windows, and backdoor to ward off mosquitoes from entering the house; they will also add a nice pop of purple to your home! You can also create small satchels holding dried lavender flowers to put in your dresser draws. Your clothes will both be safe from moths and smell glorious!

This is just a handful of the many ways lavender is the master healer. It also helps with allergies, appetite loss, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, insect bites/stings, blisters, boils, breast pain, chicken pox, focus/concentration, dandruff, diabetic sores, diaper rash, menstrual cramps, exhaustion, fever, gas/flatulence, hair loss, itching, jet lag, dry lips, and the list goes on.

With all this and more out there to learn about lavender, it will make a wonderful addition to your home healthcare toolkit. To learn more about how lavender and other herbs/essential oils can benefit your health and home, call My Wealth in Health for a free 20-minute consultation today!
